Networking Opportunities…
I went to a few dinner events the past couple weeks. One was with several other CSULB students on the road to graduating. I think this was a good opportunity to connect with my peers since other CSULB alumni’s are more than likely willing to seek each other out. I connected with two people via Linked in. I met Daisy, who is graduating and pursuing a goal to start up her own preschool. I said, “If you need an art teacher let me know!”
Overall this dinner was a good experience, and I learned some etiquette tips as well when eating dinner in formal settings.
I went to another dinner in Santa Cruz, CA. I was not anticipating this to be a networking event, however the people I was sitting with turned out to be very cool. I met a power couple: wife was a math professor at CSU Monterrey Bay, and the husband was a computer guy at Google. This dinner also took place at a farm at an elementary school, and was organized to let people know about their aspirations to make every school district have a “Farm to fork” experience for school lunches. I thought this organization was very inspiring.
I will be going to another event soon, which is for teachers. I am not a teacher yet, however I am still able to go and join a tour of a museum as well as talk about how to teach art.
